Free live TV apps are great but there are thousands to choose from. Take a look at my Xumo review to find out if it’s right for you.

The Amazon Firestick is a popular streaming device that offers excellent value for money and can be jailbroken with minimal effort. It is a perfect choice for anyone looking to cut the cord, regardless of their experience with streaming devices.

What is Xumo?

Xumo is an American over-the-top internet television service. You can enjoy over 190 channels that are 100% free but supported by ads. As of February 2020, the service averages over 10 million monthly active users.

Not only does Xumo have live TV channels but also a whole load of videos-on-demand. You’ll find everything from news, weather, sports, movies, comedy, drama, horror, reality TV, as well as science and so much more, with no bills, no contract, just free TV.

Where is Xumo Available?

At this time, XUMO and XUMO-powered applications such as Channel Plus and LG Channels are available in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, UK, Italy, Spain, Brazil and Mexico.

Outside of the U.S., LG Channels is available in Canada on LG smart TVs running webOS 3.5 (2017) or above. In the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Brazil and Mexico, LG Channels is available for LG smart TVs running webOS 4.5 (2019) or above.

If you are not within any of these regions, you will receive an “out of region” error. However, if Xumo is not supported in your area, you may be able to use a VPN to bypass any location blocks.

Accessing content with Xumo through a VPN is also beneficial, even if the service is available in your area. As content varies depending on where you are located, changing your location to the US with a VPN generally unlocks new content.

NordVPN is my recommendation because it has strong unblocking capabilities. If you presently use IP Vanish as your VPN and want to unblock streaming services, I would consider switching to my recommended VPN. Despite IP Vanish being a safe and secure VPN, it does not have very good unblocking capabilities. Furthermore, you will struggle to use streaming services that are based outside of your location.

What Content Does Xumo Have?

Live TV Channels

Xumo offers a wonderful streaming experience when it comes to live TV channels and its layout. An EPG, or program guide, lets you know what is currently showing on every channel. Channels are also grouped into categories to make navigation easy. Additionally, you can add any channel to your favourites for quick and easy access. Select one of the following categories for a full channel list.

Channel Availability The channel line-up may be different to this list depending on your location. The channels listed are presently available in the US. If you are outside of the US, I recommend changing your location with a VPN. I use NordVPN to connect to a US server in order to view more content. NordVPN is my recommendation because it has strong unblocking capabilities. If you presently use IP Vanish as your VPN and want to unblock streaming services, I would consider switching to my recommended VPN. Despite IP Vanish being a safe and secure VPN, it does not have very good unblocking capabilities. Furthermore, you will struggle to use streaming services that are based outside of your location.

Live TV channels stream beautifully, in HD, without any buffering or lag. Additionally, you have the option of turning of subtitles if you need them. The only small issue that some viewers might have is the large number of ads.

If Xumo is available in your area as an app from the Amazon app store, Xumo integrates with the Live TV tab that now features on most Fire TV devices. So, you don’t even have to go into the app to start watching any of these great channels, you can just tap over the Live tab and view the channel guide directly from your Amazon home screen.

On Demand

As well as hundreds of live TV channels, on offer are 1,000s of movies and TV shows on-demand. However, the choice with Xumo isn’t very exciting. You certainly won’t find any big hit movies, or anything recent. In fact, on offer are mostly weak and not very well known titles. If you’re looking for on-demand content from an official source that IS more exciting, try Peacock or The Roku Channel. Available content changes on a regular basis. The following list is an example of what was available to stream at the time of writing this review.

Do I Need to Sign Up?

No. As a matter of fact, no account, subscription or signup is required. In other words, everything is free! At this time, there isn’t even an option to sign up for an account to get you additional benefits such as settings parental control or syncing your favourites and watchlist across devices. However, their website states that “the Xumo team is working hard to bring features like these to you soon.”

Where Can I Watch Xumo?

Xumo is available to stream on most of your devices as an app as well as on any web browser. Simply search your app store for Xumo then install it. Or visit the Xumo website. Additionally, if you use Kodi, Xumo can be found as on addon in the official Kodi repository.

But if you can’t get Xumo from your app store then you may be able to sideload it. In order to do so, your device must be capable of installing apps from unknown sources. Once your device is enabled for sideloading, you can then install the app from my Downloads page.

Firstly, make sure you have enabled sideloading on your device
Open Downloader then select the Search box
Type in 28907 then select Go
Wait for my Downloads page to fully load then press the Menu (or Options) button on your remote 2x to enter full-screen mode
Move down the page in order to view the Live TV section
Find the Xumo app in the list then select it
On the next page, move down until you see the Download button
Select the Download button then select Install
When the app has finished installing, select Delete 2x to remove the installation file as it's no longer required
Go to your apps page then open the app!
